Yes you can. All ULIPs (like LIC market plus) give you non-guaranteed return. In fact you should buy ULIP for 10 years or more.

lic market plus is a unit linked pension plan. As it is a unit linked plan the returns are dependant on stock market movements and the investment fund chosen. Although the markets in long term tend to give good returns you should be prepared to take risk of capital loss.

Please check the NAV values of the ULIP policy you have taken, & sell it at the time, when the NAV value is higher that your your buying cost, so that you can earn profit.

You may not lose your money, but certainly don't expect stars .. I personally have invested in Market plus(plan 181) from last 5 years and last time I checked I am getting return around 7 to 8% per year. Not at all good from risk point of view. Even mutual fund are better than this.
Don't fall for guys who promise that money will double because those agents get commission of around 20% for 1st year and after that they have so many excuses to give.

Dear NSAVVY,

I am not showing Stars to anybody, First of all Market Plus (181) is only 4 years old and its growth fund has given more than 10% p.a. return. Secondly, if I am saying that it can double your money in 5 years, there is a logic. Their is a option of Switching, if your agent or you don't have knowledge about that, or your agent is not providing good service, its now fault of LIC or any other Co. I am using switching option and my clients are getting more than 16% annualized compounding returns. Mutual Funds are better in SIP option. Market Plus is best in Single premium option.

About commission, In single premium option of Market Plus, agent is getting only getting 2% and in Regular premium option agent is getting 7.5% first year & 2 % thereafter. For a 10,000/- deposit agent is getting Rs. 200/-, Do u think with that commission, he will provide you switching facility also. And also most of the customers asking for Rebate from commission. Its customers money, facility is available from Co. if he want to avail that facility. Either customer use that service by himself or pay for the service.

No LIC agent is happily selling ULIPs because of low commissions. In private sector these commissions are high. So, JAGO GRAHAK JAGO. Read Features and Benefits of the products and look for your own benefits and Don't look at what benefits others are getting.

I can give guarantee for double money in 5 years on a Stamp Paper. OK...

Dear Mr. Bhupesh,

I am not accusing you to mislead users on financial advise. I wrote on my experience and personal belief and I am NOT an adviser.

Now coming to your point of money getting doubled in 5 years .. well its not magic. Getting double money in 5 years is nothing but 15% compound interest in 5 years.

If someone is really interested in invest in stock market to get all kind of benefits then I certainly believe he can get equity SIP plan for long term where he can certainly get more than 15% compounded return.

You might be very lucky in forecasting future market crash and switching to secured fund and to equity fund when required. But so far we have seen in last 2009 market crash even big fund houses could not foresee market crash. Otherwise they could have earned millions by sort selling.

So please don't claim that you can guarantee 15% compounded return (even you can write in bond paper .. that's a bit too much). I hope Indian market does not see another panic selling like 2009 (which will force all tall claims to come crashing in no time)....

Thanks.

I am going to add something to my earlier post.

If we really need guaranteed income there are so many options such as Bank FD, PPF, Postal MIS, Govt Bond. These will give you guaranteed return and most are guaranteed by Govt of India. But sad thing is return will be less. Same holds true for Market Plus secured fund. Secured fund invests mostly in bonds but here is a catch. It takes FMC from you every year. So when calculating annual yield we have to minus FMC from your yield.

Now the biggest enemy of secured fond .. inflation. In long term, we just want to beat one guy .. that is inflation. Can we do this? Yes, we can if we target long term investment in equity ,bond, real estate and gold. We can hope everything can't go down at same time.

Lets see the case of equities

We all know all the ULIP such as LIC Market plus invest in stock market (if you opt for growth fund).

Its an age old principle to buy low and sell high in stock market. Sadly, very few can do this all the time. Imagine if anyone could have bought BSE index in 2005(August 1, 2005; BSE was 7754) and sold in 2008 (January 2, 2008; BSE was 20686). So in 3 years of time, you get more than 38.5% annual yield. But can it happen all the time. May be but not guaranteed for sure. Why? Because stock market always goes through bull and bear phase and we never know when bears take over and you lose money.(Think about time from January 2008 to March 2009, BSE index dipped from 20686 to 8325).

When considering equities, don't think that you can time the market. Stock market depends on many things and its very difficult to time a market. Also when someone is saying you can get money doubled in 5 years, 4 times in 10 years investing in stock market they assume market will always have bull phase, but practically that may not happen all the time. If stock market goes through bear phase people can lose money forget getting more.

So what can we do to beat bears? We can opt for Systematic Investment (Buying at low and high too) and by averaging our purchase, which can make sure that we can have better return on long term and you can sleep in peace forgetting about switches and timing.

Thanks.

Don't buy this. i bought (rs:10k)1000 units - single premium. after 5 years, NAV is 14.3 but the trick is they reduced the no.os units we hold (part of fund mgmt. charges). i have only 820 units now. final value is: 11726rs after 5 years. LIC is not good in mkt. linked products.

This lic is biggest fraud company in india i have invested in market plus for 1000rs.. at that time rate was 13.488.. so is should be allotted around 20 units. but when i enquired abt the value abt almost after 4yr. they r saying i have only 576.92 unit. i was shocked to see it.. and my value is 8500 now.. i dont' knw what to do knw. The agent only sell the product the go away.. even they don't knw anything abt product.. how lic is having mushroom type agents. eating away with hard earned money.. i am going to take the loss tomorrow and never to to these cheaters again.. and the bigest drawback is they dont write how much unit they r giving on the bond they r issuing.. These type of fraud can't b expected from a govt company..
in office no one is there to listen u.. i have to bond other is of 25000.. it unit also reduced from 2450 to 2240.. atleast it valu is not much depriciated..
i want to say to ppl that. take everything in written and enquire urself from office before investing in this. or better never invest in LIC...
i am going to file a consumer complain also..
hope it will benefit others
