Topic: When can health insurance policy premium be increased by providers?

Is there any well defined criteria for it? Can the health insurance companies increase the health insurance premiums during the middle of a policy period also?

Health insurance premium for individuals cannot be reviewed in the middle of the policy year. Premiums are dependent on age slabs and are increased on the policy anniversary if the client graduates to next age slab. For health insurance different companies can have different premiums as the markets are now free and price driven.

Premium cannot be increased in the middle of the policy period.
Premium can be increased at the time of renewal
If there is a claim during the past year
if there is no claim, you may get discount on premium or getting cumulative bonus
depends on the age slab for premium calculation
If there is any change in the service tax rate,
premium can also be revised generally with the approval of IRDA

I & My eige having Royal sundram medi clrim heslig policy frlast more than 10 yrs . Onsured valu is 150000. For each. Cumulative bonus for each is90000. I am now 65 yrs in June & My wife is 61 in may , 2011.company has increased premium to almost double of last yrs i.e. 9782. Last yrs to 18803. This yrs in August this yrs.(2011).pl let me know , if this increased is genuine? What Are the views of IRDA'S in this regards?

The Health insurance policy will be increased by the provider because medical expenses is increased. Further, Doctors wants to be paid more and more and also drug are very expense as well.

The premium of a certain policy cannot be increased, if the policy or plan is live and active. Even if the provider wishes to increase to premium, it can be done only if the policy has elapsed. Normally, the renewal is done with respect to year on year basis. The health insurance premium will remain the same across the one year span. Hopes, this helps!!!
