what is the total health insurance cover? Me and my wife have a family floater plan of Rs. 3 Lakh and each one of us is also covered by our respective employers for Rs. 2 lakh. What is the total health insurance cover available to us and which health insurance policy will be used first in case of any emergency? Please help

In your case each of you will have a cover of 5 lacs of which 3 lacs will be shared to you both. When claiming, you need to inform both the insurers about both your policies. They will split your claim amount accordingly among themselves.

The health insurance benefit would be beneficial to you as supplementary health insurance coverage apart from the coverage offered by the corporate policy. Plus, if you have taken an individual health insurance policy, it helps you to get some income tax rebates. So it is not necessary for you to cancel your existing policy. Also such a policy will also pay for a claim on a rateable proportion. Total cover would still be Rs. 3 lacs. Normally the group policy would be more liberal in terms coverage with regard to pre-existing coverage and maternity benefits etc. and it would make sense to use the policy 1st .

Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan covers a good number of medical issues, however, there are particular things such as prescriptions that a Medicare recipient must deal with as well.
