what is the total health insurance cover? Me and my wife have a family floater plan of Rs. 3 Lakh and each one of us is also covered by our respective employers for Rs. 2 lakh. What is the total health insurance cover available to us and which health insurance policy will be used first in case of any emergency? Please help

In your case each of you will have a cover of 5 lacs of which 3 lacs will be shared to you both. When claiming, you need to inform both the insurers about both your policies. They will split your claim amount accordingly among themselves.

The health insurance benefit would be beneficial to you as supplementary health insurance coverage apart from the coverage offered by the corporate policy. Plus, if you have taken an individual health insurance policy, it helps you to get some income tax rebates. So it is not necessary for you to cancel your existing policy. Also such a policy will also pay for a claim on a rateable proportion. Total cover would still be Rs. 3 lacs. Normally the group policy would be more liberal in terms coverage with regard to pre-existing coverage and maternity benefits etc. and it would make sense to use the policy 1st .

There are 3 options available for family health insurance at max bupa (http://www.maxbupa.com/foryouyourFamily.aspx). They are relatively new in the Indian market, so their plans are very good.

One of my friends has taken maxbupa's policy recently and he seems to be very happy with their service. Any feedback available here?

Hi
Individual health insurance policy and family floater policy are two types of health insurance policies available in the market. An individual can opt for any of them depending upon his/her requirement. If a person has a family buying individual coverage for every family member can prove to be an expensive affair. In such a scenario a family health insurance commonly known as a family floater health insurance would be an ideal choice.

That's true, the medical insurance cover would be beneficial to you as a supplementary health insurance cover apart from the coverage offered by your company. But since you have an existing individual health insurance policy, an additional medical cover can help you get some tax rebates. So it is not necessary for you to cancel your existing policy. A colleague at our office has taken a mediclaim insurance from Royal Sundaram. When in a similar situation, he was suggested the same.

Have you opted for a plan as of now? I would suggest you to get a quote from Max Bupa. It is one of the best medical insurance providers of India. The Family Floater plan suits your requirement. The plan offers multiple benefits like maternity insurance, new born baby cover, cashless hospitalization, day care procedure, tax benefits, direct cash settlement and much more. I have opted for the same plan for my family. Things going quite well as of now. Sharing the link and toll free for you, just call up and ask for all the details. AITF: 1800-3010-3333
