National Savings Certificate is the debt investment options provided by the Govt. of India through Indian Post Offices. One can invest minimum Rs. 500 and there is no maximum limit of investment. Rate of interest is 8 % compounded half yearly. Two adults, Individuals, and minor through guardian can purchase. Companies, Trusts, Societies and any other Institutions are not eligible to purchase. Non-resident Indian/HUF can not purchase.

I agree to what Deepak has mentioned. NSC stands for ‘National Savings Certificate’. It is one of the debt investment options offered by Indian Govt. through Indian Post Offices. You can invest a minimum amount of Rs 500 and there is no limit.

There is Minimum with 1000/- & Maximum of Rs. 1,00,000 is the Limits for each financial year for getting tax benefits under section 80c. Sources: www.avdhootinvestment.com

Hi,
There is no maximum limit for investing into NSC. However, upto Rs. 100,000 can be claimed towards tax rebates mentioned in section 80C of Income Tax Act. From year starting April 2012, this rebate may possibly vanish and NSCs may not be tax efficient.

The duration of NSC has now been reduced from 6 years to 5 years.
